Legendary singer SP Balasubramanyam who was tested positive for COVID-19, passed away today. He was 74.

Balasubramanyam ji was reportedly being treated at a hospital in Chennai since August 5 after he showed mild COVID-19 symptoms. However, in the last 24 hours, his conditions deteriorated further making him dependent on the life support devices.

The late singer reportedly had mild fever on Wednesday and was in extreme state of health. Soon after the demise of the legend, the social media flooded with messages of shock and grief as the fans and celebrities poured their condolences.

Previously, it was reported that SP Balasubramanyam was responding well to the treatment and was also expected to be discharged. Director Venkat Prabhu is the one who first shared the news on his Twitter page, and shocked the fans.

SP Balasubramanyam has given glorified the industry with his beautiful evergreen songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films. He is also honoured with a Padma Shri in 2001 and a Padma Bhushan in 2011 by the Government of India for his contribution to cinema.

He started his cinematic journey in 1966 with the Telugu film, ‘Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna’ and then there was no looking back. He made an extraordinary contribution to music across many languages. Bollywood with bestowed with his mesmerizing and evergreen songs like ‘Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali’, Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai’, ‘Tere Mere Beech Mein’, and ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’ to name a few. Apart from singing, SP Balasubramanyan had also played a few memorable roles in Tamil films like ‘Keladi Kanmani’, ‘Sigaram’, ‘Kadhalan’, ‘Priyamannawale,’ which left a memorable imprint in the heart of his fans.
