Murchana Music Academy celebrated its ‘Silver Jubilee Year’ with immense grandeur and cultural enthusiasm on July 20 during an all-day event starting at 10 am at the Sri Sri Madhavadeva International Auditorium in Guwahati’s Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. The cultural event was honoured by the presence of esteemed Assamese poet Nilim Kumar and Kandarpa Kumar Sharma, a member of the executive committee of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, who served as special guests. The occasion commenced with the Academy’s Principal, Hiranya Kalita, igniting the ceremonial traditional lamp in the presence of Barnali Kalita, Jonali Das, Parag Deka, and Pallab Bhardwaj. A floral tribute was paid in honour of the late Pankaj Sharma, a renowned Santoor artiste from Assam. Founded on January 1, 2000, Murchana Music Academy, situated on the main road of Pub-Sarania in the Chandmari region of Guwahati, has been providing systematic and scientific music instruction in guitar, electronic keyboard, piano, violin, ukulele, tabla, and vocal music. The institution additionally provides online training opportunities for students across the globe. Under the stewardship of Principal Hiranya Kalita and his spouse Barnali Kalita, this esteemed institution, acknowledged on a global scale, has persistently inspired students to cultivate, exhibit, and advance their cultural talents through systematic stage performances. The event anchors, Madhusmita Nath and Bipul Kumar Bora, who are supporters of the academy, skillfully facilitated the entire cultural programme. The cultural celebrations commenced with a collective performance of “Ejaak Soraai Uri Uri Jay,” a composition and arrangement by Hiranya Kalita, performed by senior students, teachers, and parents.

This year, the Academy recognized the distinguished Assamese musician Deepak Baruah by bestowing upon him the title of ‘Sangeetacharya’. He was presented with a certificate, a distinctive five-string violin, a traditional Phulaam Gamosa, a Xoraai, and a symbolic memento representing the music institution. What transpired next genuinely excited and captivated the audiences, who were enthralled by a sequence of mesmerizing performances. Ayan Kalita played “Bahaaro Phool Barsaao” on the keyboard, Shams Hazarika delivered “Hai Apna Dil To Awara”, Dhanishta Devi performed “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaaye’, Shreya Sharma showcased “Sonor Khaaru Nelage Mok” on the guitar; Dheemanta Kumar Baruah presented “Gaa Gaa Aji Gai Jaa”; and Aymen Asman Ali enchanted the crowd with “Baar Baar Dekho”.

Under the guidance of Barnali Kalita, the violin students – Ananyashree Baruah, Sumanashree Das, Pragyashree Nath, Stelina Kakoti, Ratna Boro, Barnali Das, Moushreya Baishya, Nishika Bardoloi, Ayushman Barman, Jayashree Baruah, and Dolly Devi – performed heartfelt interpretations of Bhupen Hazarika’s enduring classic “Kahowa Bon Mor Ashanta Mon” and the Indian classical Raag Hansadhwani, earning resounding applause from the audience. The Silver Jubilee stage featured captivating performances, such as Bhargav Pratim Bhardwaj’s renditions of “Nile Nile Ambar Pe” and “O Maijan Toke He Dekha Pai”, along with Pragyashree Nath’s interpretation of Jayanta Hazarika’s “Mayamoy Rupali Jonak”. Furthermore, Sukanya Sharma performed “Bohagote Ahibi Senai Oi”, while Himashree Barooah showcased “Poka Dhanor Maje Maje.” Junior students captivated the audience with their heartfelt rendition of “Ai Asomir Pujar Bedit”, which features lyrics and music by Hiranya Kalita, demonstrating their sincerity and innocence.

Students of the electronic keyboard infused energy into the musical show through their performances of “Tip Tip Barsa Pani”, “Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya”, and “Tomaar Ushah Kahowaa Komol”.

In acknowledgment of outstanding performance in music exams in 2024, students received symbolic tokens to encourage their ongoing commitment. Among the recipients were Umangi Kashyap, Wahid Alam, Sreeraag Patgiri, Shabib Ahmed, Pibaren Lairenjam, Nikunj Bawri, Navya Bawri, Krithik Das, Kritartha Kanta Baruah, Siddhant Pratim Baruah, Aranyak Spondan Sharma, Ayan Jyoti Das, Prithika Priyadarshini Kashyap, Suryansh Pratim Das, Arunabh Pragyan Roy, Abhinav Pragyan Roy, Raihan Hussain, Priyanshi Sharma, Neeraj Sharma, Hanvika Sharma, Mugdha Akash Bhaskar, Mehaak Khan, Khavish Kachari, Hrishikesh Rabha, Harshita Boro Hazarika, Diptangshu Patgiri, Deweshi Goswami, and Darshil Dutta.

Bipul Biswas, a former student, received special recognition for successfully founding the ‘String Rider Music Education School’ in Barpeta Road. He received a gamosa and the emblem of the Academy as an honour. His students also presented a performance on stage during the celebration.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations concluded on a triumphant note, with 32 guitarists performing a moving interpretation of “Porajanamar Shubhalaganat Jodihe Amar Hoy Dekha”, a composition by the renowned cultural figure Bishnu Prasad Rabha, thereby creating a memorable and emotional finale to the festivities.

The Nagaland Taekwondo Association showcased its talents at the 40th Senior National Taekwondo Championship in Pondicherry from October 18-20, 2024. An 18-member team, comprising eight boys and seven girls, alongside three officials, represented Nagaland under the leadership of Senior Team Coach T. Alem Aier, Team Coach Santsuthung Ngullie, and Team Manager Keneingulie.

Highlighting their achievements, Malika Baruah clinched a bronze medal in the girls’ under 53 kg category. She demonstrated exceptional skill by overcoming competitors from West Bengal, the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI), and Madhya Pradesh, before narrowly missing out in a semifinal match against Chandigarh.

The championship also doubled as a qualification event for the National Games scheduled for January 2025 in Uttarakhand. Both Malika Boruah in the under 53 kg category and Dipika Hazarika in the under 46 kg category secured their spots for the upcoming games. Notably, both athletes are part of the Assam Rifles Cadres and currently serve at the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S) in Sukhovi.

The athletes expressed their sincere appreciation to the Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) for the substantial support provided during their preparations. This included a month-long coaching camp led by a Korean coach, an effort that significantly contributed to their performance.

Team officials extended special thanks to Pele Khezhie, President of the NTA, Kethosituo Sekhose, NCS, Director of Youth Resources and Sports Nagaland, Visabiu Peseyie, State Taekwondo Coach, and the Commanding Officer of Assam Rifles, Sukhovi, along with the supportive staff of Assam Rifles.

This participation not only marked an achievement for the team but also spotlighted the supportive network and training facilities that bolstered Nagaland’s presence and success in the national sports arena.

Sharing morning selfies ahead of her travel, Kangana wrote, “Dear friends today is a very special day, resuming work after 7 months, travelling to southern India for the most ambitious bilingual project THALAIVI, need your blessings in these testing times of a pandemic.”

Previously in a statement, Kangana spoke about her film. She said, “Jayalalithaa ji is one of the biggest female success stories of this century. She was a superstar and went on to become an iconic politician. It’s a great concept for a mainstream film. I am honoured to be a part of this mega project.” Thalaivi is being directed by AL Vijay and the film was scheduled to hit the screens in June this year. However, due to the world wide pandemic, the shoot was left incomplete. The makers of ‘Thalaivi’ have planned to release the film in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu language.

Apart from ‘Thalaivi’, Kangana Ranaut will be seen in’ Tejas’. She portrays the role of an Indian Air Force pilot in the film, which will be directed by Sarvesh Mewara.  

Recently on September 19, the poster for ‘The Good Doctor’ Season 4 has dropped and the excitement of fans has doubled. It questioned, “How do you heal a world turned upside down?” imprinted on the face of series star Freddie Highmore, who plays the role of Dr. Shaun Murphy.

The Good Doctor is an American medical drama television series which is based on the 2013 award-winning South Korean series of the same name. The series stars Freddie Highmore as Shaun Murphy, a young ‘autistic savant’ surgical resident at the fictional San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

The series debuted on September 2017 and received mixed reviews from the critics, with particular praise given to Highmore’s performance, and strong television ratings but criticism for the storylines while the portrayal of autistic divided the critics. The last season, i.e. Season 3 was premiered on September 23, 2019. Later on February 2020, ABC renewed the series for a fourth season which is set to premiere on November 2, 2020.

As for for what has turned the world ‘upside down’ in the world of doctors and patients at St. Bonaventure Hospital, art will reflect real life at the beginning of Season 4. It’s kicking off with a two part premiere, ‘Frontline,’ about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Highmore, Executive Producer David Stone, and others will be participating in a panel as a part of the all-digital New York Comic Con Metaverse (on the New York Comic Con YouTube Channel) from October 8-11. They’ll break down the Season 3 finale, which saw them lose one of their own, Nicholas Gonzalez’s Dr, Neil Melendez, due to the injuries sustained in the earthquake, and give fans a sneak peek into what’s to come.

Ayushmann Khurrana has made his debut as a sperm donor in ‘Vicky Donor’ and soon went on to depict a blind man in ‘Andhadhun’, a man suffering from erectile dysfunction in ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’, a gay man in ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’, and a bald man in ‘Bala’. He had also collected praises for his performances in ‘Dum Laga ke Haisha’, ‘Bareilly ki Barfi’, ‘Article 15’ and ‘Dream Girl.’

On the work front, Kohli will return to action after a gap of more than six months when he will lead Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2020 IPL, which will now take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 19 to November 10.

Meanwhile, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sent a show-cause notice to the dean of Dr. RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital and the Mumbai Police on Tuesday for allowing Rhea Chakraborty to enter the mortuary of the hospital when Sushant Singh Rajput’s post-mortem was being conducted.

SHRC chief, MA Sayeed told Mumbai Mirror that he asked the legal wing to look into the matter after he saw videos of Rhea visiting the mortuary. “We don’t know how and under what circumstances the permission to visit the mortuary was given. It should not have been so,” he said.

A show-cause notice has been issued to the dean of the Cooper Hospital, asking him how and why Rhea and her family members got the access to the mortuary. “I am treating the matter as urgent and have listed it for August 31,” Sayeed said.

On June 15, just after a day of Sushant’s death, Rhea was clicked along with three others at Cooper Hospital.an SHRC officer said, “We are investigating how she gained entry when she isn’t related to the deceased. We will have hearings and legal consequences will follow. The police will also have to face the consequences.

Currently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing Sushant’s death, after a Supreme Court order last week. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating a separate money laundering case against Rhea and others while, Narcotics Control Bureau has joined recently, after the ED found that drug was supplied to Rhea.

Actor Jay Bhanushali, who was a part of Khatron Ke Khiladi, Season 7 will be next seen in the same franchise, Khatron Ke Khiladi: Made in India. This season will be shot exclusively in India, unlike the previous seasons that were shot in foreign countries.

Apart from Jay, the participants of the previous season including Nia Sharma, Karan Wahi, Rithvik Dhanjani, Jasmin Bhasin, Aly Goni, Haarsh Limbachiyaa and Karan Patel will participate in the show. According to sources, there are chances that Bharti Singh, too, will be a part of the show as a wild card entry from the 3^rd or 4^th episode.

While speaking about the same, Jay Bhanushali opened up about leaving his family during the shoot and keeping them safe from COVID-19. Talking to Indian Express, he said, “it does get extremely difficult. I have three kids at home and a wife, and during the lockdown, I have got so used to it that it was the toughest task to stay alone. Recently, we were given a short break and I got myself tested. The reports were negative so I came back home. I think I cannot survive without these nagging and noise around me. But once we resume shoot, I will move to another flat. It’s my way to keep them safe during the coronavirus pandemic.”

Jay, who is married to Mahhi Vij are parents to three children, Tara, Khushi and Rajveer.
