Masaba, daughter of acclaimed actress Neena Gupta and legendary West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards, recently spoke out about the unsolicited and often insensitive advice she has received during her pregnancy. During an interview with Faye D’Souza, she described how people advised her to consume certain foods like rasgulla and milk to influence her baby’s skin tone, reflecting the types of inappropriate comments many pregnant women endure.

Masaba shared, “Just yesterday, someone advised me to eat a rasgulla daily to ensure my child turns out lighter. Another told me, ‘You must consume milk; your child must not turn out dusky.’ It’s said with such innocence, but it’s deeply frustrating.” Despite such remarks, she emphasizes the need to raise strong children capable of facing societal challenges. She pointed out that while some discriminatory attitudes are now whispered, they remain prevalent, even among educated and affluent individuals. Masaba finds it absurd that calling someone “kaali” (dark-skinned) remains an insult in 2024, highlighting the enduring nature of colorism in society.

Highlighting the significance of fostering resilience, she asserts, “The number of times people think calling someone ‘kaali’ is a way of putting them down is so absurd. This mindset persists, and not just among certain societal sections but even among well-read, wealthy individuals. It’s 2024, yet it hasn’t changed.”

Masaba and Satyadeep Misra, who tied the knot last January, joyfully announced their pregnancy in April. The couple has also shared the screen in the Netflix series “Masaba Masaba,” which ran for two seasons, though a third has not yet been confirmed. Their journey, both personal and professional, continues to captivate their fans as they prepare for this new chapter in their lives.
