Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have decided to separate after nearly 30 years of marriage. The announcement was confirmed by their shared lawyer, Vandana Shah, who requested privacy for the family during this sensitive time. Despite the challenges, the decision to part ways after 29 years was mutual, as the couple faces significant emotional strain. This decision was first made public through a joint statement issued by Shah on behalf of both parties.

The statement highlighted that despite their deep love, the emotional strains had created an irreparable gap in their relationship. “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira and her husband, Mr. A.R. Rahman, have made the difficult decision to separate from each other,” it explained. Rahman acknowledged this change on his X account, expressing sadness over not reaching their “grand thirty” anniversary but finding solace in seeking meaning amid the heartbreak. He thanked friends and fans for respecting their privacy as they navigate this challenging period.

Rahman and Saira, who married in 1995, have three children together: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen. On the professional front, A.R. Rahman recently received the ‘XTIC Award 2024 for Innovation’ from IIT Madras for his virtual reality film, Le Musk. He also launched its soundtrack globally.
