The box office has spoken, and it’s proving to be a tough week for Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s latest outing, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. The romantic comedy, which marks the duo’s reunion after their digital success Bawaal, promised a breezy mix of humor, heart, and chemistry—but the numbers tell a different story.

After eight days in theatres, the film has collected a modest ₹40.75 crore across India, falling short of the coveted ₹50 crore mark. While the film opened on a hopeful note with ₹9.25 crore on day one, audience momentum waned soon after. Day two saw collections dip to ₹5.5 crore, followed by a weekend recovery with ₹7.5 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. However, weekday fatigue hit hard, with Monday and Wednesday bringing in just ₹2–3 crore apiece. A small bump on Tuesday, thanks to discounted ticket offers, added ₹3.25 crore, but by day eight, earnings had declined again to ₹2 crore.

In stark contrast, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara continues its box office domination, roaring past the ₹300 crore milestone domestically. The cultural phenomenon has left little breathing room for competitors, and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is no exception.

Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film features an ensemble cast including Maneish Paul, Abhinav Sharma, and Akshay Oberoi. The narrative follows Sunny (Varun Dhawan), a hopeless romantic grappling with heartbreak after his girlfriend Ananya (Sanya Malhotra) chooses material comfort over love, marrying Vikram (Rohit Saraf).

Despite its glossy packaging and lighthearted charm, the film has struggled to resonate with audiences beyond its opening weekend. Whether word of mouth can help it regain footing remains to be seen—but for now, Kantara stands tall as the undisputed box office titan.

Ranbir Kapoor recently confirmed that his successful film “Brahmastra” is set to become a three-part franchise. In an interview at the Red Sea Film Festival, he provided an update on the sequel, “Brahmastra 2,” revealing that the team is currently in the scriptwriting phase. Kapoor expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “That’s something very exciting.” The first installment was titled “Shiva,” and the sequel will be called “Dev.” While the cast for “Dev” hasn’t been officially announced, Kapoor hinted at exciting developments on that front. The film is directed by Ayan Mukerji, a close friend with whom Kapoor previously collaborated on “Wake Up Sid,” “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,” and the first “Brahmastra.” Kapoor highlighted the unique nature of the franchise within Indian cinema, noting its potential for further expansion in future parts. Recently, Kapoor wrapped up filming for another major project, “Ramayana,” directed by Nitesh Tiwari, where he stars opposite Sai Pallavi. Additionally, he has “Love and War” lined up, a film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in which he will share the screen with Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.

Recently, Kangana Ranaut wrote a poem for Karan Johar regarding his latest production Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. While the Jahnvi Kapoor starer received a mixed review, the film also attracted controversy for its portrayal of the Indian Air Force.

The official handle of Kangana’s team shared the poem on Twitter, “Karan Johar ke liye shayari arz hai… Humein nationalism ki dukaan chalani hai par deshbhakti nahi dikhani hai. Pakistan se war wali filmein bahut chalti hai, Hum bhi banaenge lekin uska villain bhi Hindustani hai, ab third gender bhi aa gaya army mein lekin Karan Johar tu kab samjhega senani sirf senani hai. (A poem for Karan Johar… We want to jump abard the nationalism bandwagon but won’t show patriotism. Films based on war with Pakistan earns money so we will make such films but the villians in these will still be Indian. Now, the third gender has also entered the army, when will you understand Karan Johar, that a soldier is simply a soldier.”)

Earlier, the team had also criticized the film, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, and tweeted, “All n all GS remains a petty film missing the larger picture and essence of a soldier’s life, proving her opponents right who said we are here to protect Bharat Mata but you are here for equal opportunity, that’s pretty much sums up the film in the end Gunjan wins not India. SAD!”

“Also what is with reluctant desh bhakti, many times Gunjan says in the film ‘I don’t’t love my nation I just want to fly the plane’ there was no arc to show she fell in love with the country n how she understood the real meaning of uniform!! All she says, ‘papa won’t let you down’,” the tweet read.

While the Indian Air Force and a few individuals, including the Chief of National Commission for Women (NCW), Rekha Sharma insist the film is an unrealistic portrayal of gender discrimination in the air force, former flight lieutenant Gunjan Saxena has specified she never faced discrimination and also defended the film, saying it shows that she got equal opportunities.
