Neeshantt Nitul’s song ‘Xomoy’ (The Time) bags the award for best international song at the prestigious American Track Music Awards 2023

Assam has produced a remarkable array of talented artistes who have made a significant impact both nationally and internationally. It’s indeed a proud moment for the state and the country as the popular and talented Assamese singer, lyricist, composer and music director Neeshantt Nitul has won the Best Song in the International Category at the prestigious ‘American Track Music Awards (ATMA) 2023’ for the song ‘Xomoy’ (The Time). He was awarded for the month of September. The award, comprising a trophy and a certificate, reached his home on October 15. Before that, he fulfilled all the necessary conditions of ATMA, including adding subtitles to the song’s lyrics, to qualify for the monthly awards, which are announced on the ATMA website, Facebook and the FilmFreeway page.

Since its inception, the American Track Music Award has been selecting the best songwriters, and recognising the most committed music creators from all over the world.

Released on the popular YouTube channel and FilmFreeway in August this year, Neeshantt Nitul’s wonderful rendition of the song ‘Xomoy’ earned him immense praise and appreciation. Besides singing the song, Neeshantt also wrote the lyrics and composed the music.

The song delineates in an easy and graceful way some of the most sensitive emotional elements of human life. Neeshantt pushed himself to weave something original and moving that has the ability to arouse profound emotions in listeners.

The song has attracted acclaim from noted critics, well-known musicians, artistes and the public alike. Besides capturing the hearts of music lovers in Assam, the song has also resonated with audiences worldwide.

Neeshantt’s success at the ATMA awards is a testament to his unique talent as a songwriter, performer and music director.

Neeshantt displayed a flair for music while still in his teens. He made his singing debut with the album ‘Subaxi Porox’, which also featured the voice of  Zubeen Garg, in 2006, followed by various songs in albums like ‘Gadhuli Porot’, ‘Lava’, ‘Parijat’, and ‘Puhor’, which showcased his raw energy and emotional intensity.

‘Xomoy’ has been produced and mixed by Rakesh Baro and mastering has been done by noted musician-sound engineer Ibson Lal Baruah. The song is designed by Dipankar Saikia and poster art is done by Dipanka Sharma.

Neeshantt Nitul was among the handful of Indie artistes and songwriters, picked from all over the world, who were awarded at the monthly ATMA awards, presented on September 30, 2023, in Los Angeles, USA.

The song ‘Xomoy’, produced under the banner and production of T.S. Guwahati; October 12, 2023: As the eighth edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival approaches, the preeminent film event in Northeast India is now open for film submissions across India for both competitive and non-competitive categories.

Filmmakers nationwide are invited to submit their entries by October 31, 2023, for the 8th Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF), scheduled to take place in Guwahati this December.

Organized by Tattva Creations, BVFF has solidified its reputation as a showcase for meaningful cinema and creative expression, highlighting the rich tapestry of natural beauty, diverse cultures, and abundant talent in the North East of India. Over the years, BVFF has attracted nearly 200,000 film enthusiasts, with an average of 20,000 visitors per festival in its previous editions, earning its place as a cornerstone of the Indian Film Festival Circuit and gaining recognition and support from industry luminaries.

In its 8th edition, the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival introduces new competition categories for feature films and documentaries, in addition to the existing short films section. The festival will also feature non-competitive categories, broadening the platform for emerging talent and presenting some of the finest works in meaningful and creative cinema.

Despite recent global challenges, BVFF returns with a renewed commitment to celebrating meaningful filmmaking, not only on the national stage but also on the international platform. The festival extends a warm invitation to film enthusiasts worldwide to participate in this cinematic extravaganza.

Tanushree Hazarika, Festival Director of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival, expressed her excitement about the upcoming edition, stating, “Organizing seven successful editions of BVFF has been a wonderful journey, and we are thrilled to prepare for the grandeur of the 8th edition in December 2023. Hosted in Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India, BVFF aims to be a platform that brings together filmmakers and film talent from across India.”

Speaking about the festival in previous editions, actor Boman Irani expressed his desire to attend again, saying, “Such a wonderful audience, so responsive to the smallest detail. I wish I could come again and again to attend BVFF,” after the 2018 edition. Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali also praised the festival in 2019, stating, “The efforts that you take on to select the films and get the right filmmakers, thereby giving them a great opportunity and the platform to showcase their work. And that is why for seven years BVFF has been running successfully.”

Several noted film personalities, including Farhan Akhtar (2014), Prakash Jha (2016), Rajkumar Hirani (2015), Gauri Shinde (2017), Nicholas Kharkongor (2019), Reema Kagti (2016), Shakun Batra (2018), Paoli Dam (2019), Sobhita Dhulipala (2019), Shiladitya Bora (2019), among many others, have actively participated in the festival in the past, providing positive feedback and encouraging the organizers and everyone associated with the homegrown film festival.
