Darpan Dance Akademi, a leading dance institution, captivated audiences at the Sri Sri Madhavadeva International Auditorium with a musical ballad  – ‘Bala’. This intricate and stimulating production honoured the late Birubala Rabha, a Padma Shri recipient revered for her relentless crusade against the horrific practice of witch-hunting and her unwavering commitment to dismantling deeply entrenched superstitions. More than just a performance, ‘Bala’ resonated deeply, highlighting critical issues of social justice and empowerment with profound artistic expression.

The heart of ‘Bala’ lay in the mesmerizing portrayal of its protagonist by Dr. Anjana Moyee Saikia, who not only conceived and choreographed the entire production but also leads Darpan Dance Akademi. Dr. Saikia, a multifaceted and renowned dancer proficient in both Sattriya and Odissi, brought Rabha’s struggles and triumphs to vivid life. The official trailer opens up with a piano slowly playing the melody to Mötley Crüe’s 1895 song, ‘Home Sweet Home’ as star Victoria Pedretti finds herself in the thick of a new chilling tale. After playing Nell Crain in Hill House, Pedretti now plays Dani Clayton, an American who comes to be the new au pair to two trouble children at their family’s estate in the English town of Bly in the 1980’s.

“The people here, they’re born here, they die here,” Rahul Kohli, playing the manor’s on-site chef, Owen, warns in the footage. Given that Flanagan and executive producer Trevor Macy are injecting more supernatural scares into this season, it’s safe to assume those people are still at Bly even after their death.

Flora (Amelie Bea Smith) and Miles (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) Wingrave are the two children in Dani’s care. They lost their parents in the years prior and, more recently, they lost their au pair.
