But there was a time when things were not going right for Deepika Padukone. In 2015, the actress has openly came up about her depression during many interviews and broke down in tears while explaining or recollecting the memories of those dark times. In an interview with NDTV, she said, “I woke up one morning just feeling empty you know like this pitt-ish feeling in my stomach that I was feeling them that I get this pettish feeling in my stomach. I woke up like feeling directionless, I didn’t know where to go, I didn’t know where to go, I didn’t know what to do and I had these bouts of feeling so low that I would just start crying at the drop of the hat.”

Though the battle through the tough days were difficult, but she came out strong, all thanks to her family, friends and doctors. However, Deepika seemed to be pretty upset and annoyed with Salman Khan for his take on depression.

Salman, during a media interaction in TiE Global Summit , said he couldn’t afford the luxury of being depressed or sad or emotional. He further added that no matter what he is going through, it works against him.

Deepika was not so happy with Salman’s comment on depression. Without taking his name, she slammed Salman for looking down upon the state of being depressed. She said, “People confuse it with being a bit sad. A male star recently said that he didn’t have the luxury to be depressed. As if depression is a choice,” Deepika was quoted as saying by Vogue magazine.

During a fundraiser for The Youth Anxiety Center in New York, she talked about the lessons she learnt from battling depression- patience and hope.

Recollecting her battle with depression, Deepika had said that the word that best describes her experience of depression is a struggle. “Every second was a struggle. I felt exhausted the whole time,” she said.
