“Urvashi Rautela’s Bold Sacrifice: Choosing Miss Universe Over a Yash Raj Debut”
In a candid revelation, actress Urvashi Rautela shared that she could have made her grand Bollywood debut with the 2012 Yash Raj Films’ romantic drama, Ishaqzaade. However, her aspirations of conquering the beauty pageant realm took precedence. In an interview with Hauterrfly, Urvashi disclosed that she had to decline the film opportunity to focus on her dream of competing in Miss Universe. Ishaqzaade eventually became the launchpad for actors Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra.
Urvashi, who was crowned Miss Diva – Miss Universe India in 2015, represented India in the Miss Universe pageant that same year. Reflecting on her choices, she said, “I had to let go of a Yash Raj Films movie because I wanted to go for Miss Universe. It was Ishaqzaade, which was supposed to be my launch. But this (pageantry) was my focus since childhood, and I really wanted to prepare for it. Some people make Bollywood their main focus after winning, but for me, it was never like that. I never spoke to Parineeti about this, but it is good; everyone has different destinies. I wanted to be a pageant winner more than a heroine, and this (Bollywood) followed automatically.”
She compared the rigorous preparation for beauty pageants to an athlete’s training for the Olympics, emphasizing the discipline required in diet, exercise, and mastering various walks.
Although Urvashi turned down Ishaqzaade, she debuted in Bollywood with Singh Saab the Great alongside Sunny Deol in 2013. She later starred in films such as Sanam Re, Hate Story 4, and Great Grand Masti. Her most recent appearance was in the thriller Ghuspaithiya, and she is set to feature in the star-studded comedy Welcome to the Jungle, headlined by Akshay Kumar.
