Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, who belongs to Assam, emerged as a national figure, as his works become synonymous with the political and cultural aspirations of a nation. Despite his deep rootedness in his own cultural context, his music and ideas are universal. But it has been observed and perceived that the appraisal of his music and the enumeration of his ideology are very less in national and International platform. So, in a quest for imparting a Global significance to the discourse of Bhupen Hazarika’, a project has been initiated. As a part of the project, a book on Bhupen Hazarika entitled Bhupen Hazarika Vol-I, in edited form, was published. In this volume translation is made to some of the scholarly articles of Assamese eminent writers and the writers of the different parts of the country, who are somehow associated with Bhupen Hazarika and his creation along with his political ideology and artistic sensibility.
Eminent Indian musician Lata Manageshkar, Gulzar Aroon Chattopadhyay from West Bengal and Jahnu Boruah and Sudakshina Sarma from Assam made their textual contribution to the book. Eminent Assamese Writers, Scholars and Artist like Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, Hrishikesh Goswami, Dr. Chandan Sarmah, Syed Saddulla, Dilip Kr. Dutta, Ranjan Bezbaruah, Jitumoni Borah, Tez Hazarika and many others provided their insights, elucidation and thoughts to the book. This volume of the book was launched on Dec. 2019 at Calcutta and it was launched by Jeorge Baker and Binita Gohain, with the association provided by office of the Chief Minister, Govt. of Assam.
Keeping the same objective and same design, the second volume of this book is made ready. The Second volume of this Book encompasses the thoughts and insights of Dr. Sadhana Naithani, Dr. Sundar Rajdeep, Dr. Rangili Biswas and artist like AR Rehman, Raveena Tendon, Saira Banu. In regard to the discourse of Bhupen Hazarika, the thoughts and elucidation of Assamese eminent writers Dr. Nagen Saikia, Yeshe Darjee Thongshi, Phanindra Kumar Devchoudhary, Monoj Goswami, Anjan Baskota, Mukul Rabha, Mridul Chutia, Pradyut Kr. Deka, Dr. Bhabesh Das and several others distinguished literary personalities, Cultural activist and Art scholars are included in this volume of the book.
Both the Volumes are edited by Utpal Mena and Bhairabanan Borah and published by Chitrachal, Guwahati and distributed by Punthi Pustak kolkata and Assam Book Trust Guwahati. On 14th September, Wednesday at Conference Hall, Srimanta Sankardeva Bhawan, New Delhi, the Volume II of the book Bhupen Hazarika will be launched by Indian musician and Master Sarod Player Padma Vibhushan Amjad Ali Khan. National award winning film maker and renowned film critic Utpal Borpujari will grace the event with his presence as a chief guest. This book launch programme is scheduled to be commenced at 4 P.M.
