Kangana Ranaut’s Fiery Response to ‘Emergency’ Release Delay: ‘If Bhindranwale Is a Terrorist, My Film…’

“Defiant Truth: Kangana Ranaut Battles Controversy and Censorship Over ‘Emergency'”

Kangana ranuatKangana Ranaut’s film “Emergency,” initially slated for release on September 6, faced postponement due to pending certification from the censor board and substantial opposition from various Sikh groups. These organizations argue that the film portrays the Sikh community negatively, particularly concerning the depiction of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. This controversy has sparked significant debate and led to calls for a ban from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akhal Takht.

At the News18 India Chaupal event in New Delhi, Kangana responded to the criticism, asserting that the objections come from only a small segment of people. She defended her portrayal of Bhindranwale, labeling him a terrorist rather than a saint, stating, “It is our history which has been intentionally hidden.” Ranaut emphasized that her film is historically accurate, supervised by four historians, and now holds certification from the censor board.

Financially, the delay has been a setback for her, as she revealed that the postponed release cost significant losses. She expressed frustration over having to contend with these boycotts and threats, highlighting the broader implications for artistic freedom and historical narrative.

“Emergency,” directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut, features a notable cast including Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and Shreyas Talpade. Talpade plays Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while Kher portrays Jayaprakash Narayan, and the late Satish Kaushik appears as Former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram.

Despite the film’s readiness for release and the rigorous historical verification it underwent, its fate hangs in the balance due to the ongoing controversies. Kangana’s outspoken defense of her film underscores her determination to bring what she believes to be a truthful rendition of history to the audience, even as she faces substantial opposition.
