Legendary Actor and Singer Sulakshana Pandit Passes Away at 71: Remembering Her Golden Era of Music and Cinema

The Indian film industry mourns the loss of veteran actor and playback singer Sulakshana Pandit, who passed away on 6th November at the age of 71 following a cardiac arrest. Her brother, Lalit Pandit, confirmed the heartbreaking news.

According to Lalit, Sulakshana experienced breathlessness and was being taken to Nanavati Hospital when she breathed her last. “She passed away around 7 pm due to cardiac arrest. She had been feeling unwell and complained of breathlessness, but unfortunately, she died before reaching the hospital,” he shared with PTI.

Sulakshana Pandit made her acting debut in 1975 with the film Uljhan, opposite Sanjeev Kumar, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey in Indian cinema. Over the years, she worked alongside some of Bollywood’s biggest stars, including Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, and Vinod Khanna, earning both critical and popular acclaim.

Her filmography boasts memorable titles such as Sankoch, Hera Pheri, Khandaan, and Dharam Kanta, each reflecting her talent and screen presence.

Beyond acting, Sulakshana had an equally illustrious career as a playback singer, lending her soulful voice to evergreen melodies like Tu Hi Saagar Tu Hi Kinara, Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein, Bekrar Dil Tut Gaya, Baandhi Re Kahe Preet, and Somvaar Ko Hum Mile.

Hailing from a musical family in Hissar, Haryana, Sulakshana was the niece of the legendary Pandit Jasraj. She began singing at the tender age of nine alongside her brother Mandheer Pandit, later joining her talented siblings Jatin, Lalit, and Vijayata Pandit, who also made their mark in the Indian music and film industry.

Her demise marks the end of an era that beautifully blended classical artistry with cinematic charm. Sulakshana Pandit’s contributions to Indian cinema and music will forever be cherished by fans and the industry alike.
