The spirit of Indian art, culture, and heritage came alive at Samarpana 2026, a prestigious cultural festival organised by Deekshaa Arts in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Bringing together distinguished artists, performers, educators, cultural leaders, and art enthusiasts, the event celebrated excellence in Indian arts while recognising individuals whose dedication has significantly enriched the cultural landscape of the UK and beyond.
Among the evening’s most inspiring moments was the recognition of Rodali Bora, a talented Sattriya dancer from Assam, who was honoured with the Youth Icon Award at the Deekshaa Awards 2026 – For Excellence in Indian Arts in the UK. The award acknowledged her outstanding contribution towards the promotion of Indian art and culture across India and the United Kingdom. A Doordarshan B-Grade Artist, recipient of national and international honours in dance, and a scholarship holder of the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), Government of India, Rodali has established herself as one of the promising young ambassadors of Indian classical arts. Having completed more than 220 stage performances globally, she has consistently showcased the beauty and depth of Sattriya dance to diverse audiences, carrying the rich cultural heritage of Assam onto national and international platforms. Her recognition at Samarpana 2026 stands as a proud moment not only for the Assamese community but also for the wider Indian diaspora in the United Kingdom.
The event also celebrated the remarkable achievements of Manasi N. Prasan, who received the Artistic Excellence Award. A renowned Carnatic vocalist, performer, and music educator, Manasi has trained under respected gurus including Smt. Haripriya, Smt. Soumya Narayani, and Vidushi Shanta Narasimhan. Through her extensive contribution to Bharatanatyam dance productions and arangetrams in both India and the United Kingdom, she has played an important role in preserving and promoting classical Indian music while nurturing future generations of artists.
Another distinguished honouree was Rashmi Sudhir, who was presented with the Woman of Arts Award. A creative practitioner in Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi, Rashmi has dedicated over twenty-five years to the fields of dance, arts development, creative health, and cultural leadership. A disciple of Kalamandalam Mohana Tulasi and Kalaimamani Dasyam Gopika Varma, she has made significant contributions as an arts strategist and cultural leader. Her work as a founding member and coordinating lead of Dasyam UK, along with her leadership roles within major arts organisations and institutions, has helped strengthen and expand the presence of Indian classical arts in the UK.
One of the highest honours of the evening, the Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented to Piali Ray OBE, recognising her extraordinary contribution to the arts spanning more than four decades. An internationally acclaimed dancer, teacher, choreographer, and cultural visionary, Piali Ray has been a pioneering force in South Asian arts since 1982. As the Founder and Director of Sampad Arts, she has collaborated with leading institutions including the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The National Gallery, and The National Theatre. Her immense contribution to the arts was recognised through the conferment of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2002, while her innovative work has continued to shape and inspire the South Asian arts sector throughout the United Kingdom.
The festival was further elevated by the presence of acclaimed classical dancer Matangi Prasan, who attended as the Chief Guest of Samarpana 2026. Her participation added immense prestige to the occasion and reflected the festival’s commitment to celebrating artistic excellence at the highest level.
