12th of May has a special significance for the world as we celebrate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, ‘The Lady with the lamp.’ Nightingale reformed the entire nursing profession and brought into the concept of modern nursing. With her selfless dedication and a vision of a better world, Nightingale has an exemplary contribution to the health. Celebrated since 1965 as International Nurses’ Day, this day lauds the humanitarian work done by nurses across the world. WHO has also named the year 2020 as “The Year For The Nurses” and truly the nurses and the entire medical fraternity are the ones upon whom the hopes rests for now. The current pandemic across the world due to the COVID-19 has brought a tragic situation but the warriors are fighting until it ends.
The Bollywood celebrities like Ayushmann, Anushka, Abhishek Bachchan, Shankar Mahadevan and Yami Gautam took to their social media accounts to extend their wishes to these heroes on this special day and salute them for their brave contribution to the life of the people. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana lauds the contribution of the nurses in fighting the coronavirus and says, “We have been marking today as International Nurses Day every year for their contribution to humanity and society. This year we should all salute them for being our frontline warriors, the real heroes who are fighting coronavirus every single day and saving lives despite being the most at risk.”
He added, “The theme of this year’s Nurses Day is Nurses: A voice to lead- Nursing the World to Health and it couldn’t be more apt than this. We will be forever in debt to the nurses, the medical fraternity across India and the world for putting themselves online and coming to work when they could also stay safe with their families. I only want to say thank you to them and their families from the bottom of my heart.”
Sanjay Dutt tweeted, “So many lives have been saved because of the selfless work that our nurses and the healthcare professionals are doing. Can’t thank them enough for putting their lives at risk to save the lives of others. #InternationalNursesDay.”

Anushka Sharma shared a picture of ‘Nurse as an angel’ with boxing gloves on who is ready to fight the deadly virus. She writes, “Your courage, bravery and selflessness is the highest form of service to humanity. The world is eternally grateful to you.”
