Singer Monali Thakur, who has managed to keep her personal life a secret for the longest time, recently revealed in an interview that she has been married to Switzerland-based restaurateur Maik Richte for the last three years. The bollywood faternity was taken aback by this surprising news.
In a recent interview with Times Of India, Monali revealed that she got married to Maik in 2017. “I haven’t made it official anywhere on social media yet, but people had already guessed it. A couple of times when my ring was mistakenly visible in my Instagram photos, a lot of people commented, asking if it was my wedding ring. That said, Maik and I have successfully been able to hide our marriage for three years.”
In a conversation with ZoomTV, Monali opened up about a hilarious incident that took place on her wedding day, when her husband was not allowed to enter India. She said, “The day Maik was coming to India to do the registration, it was a hilarious episode. Maik came to India without a visa. Since he had a German passport, some fool told him that he doesn’t need a visa.” Talking about how her then-boyfriend, Maik Richter was thrown out of the country on their wedding day, Monali further said, “He was not allowed to enter the country. He was thrown out of India. And I was waiting there in the registration office. Somehow, the Government of India and the Home Ministry helped us a lot. Like a jail kaidi, he (Maik) was locked up at the airport for the entire day. He was sent back.” She also mentioned how the government officials were kind and helped them a lot in tackling the issue.
“The news of my marriage will come as a shock to many as none of my industry friends were aware or invited. We kept delaying the ceremony and announcement and three years just passed by. Mujhe pata hai bahot gaali padne wali hai logon se (I know people will be very angry with me), but I think when we have our wedding ceremony and invite people for the celebrations, they won’t be upset anymore,” she added.
She had also mentioned that the couple has not finalised any wedding date as of now and will start with the preparations once the things get back to normal.
Currently, Monali is quarantining with her husband in Switzerland.
Recently, Monali’s music video ‘Dil Ka Fitoor’ was released which also features Maik.
