Paresh Rawal appointed as the new Chairperson of National School of Drama

Actor Paresh Rawal has been newly appointed as the new chief of the National School of Drama (NSD). On September 10, Union tourism and Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel announced Paresh Rawal’s appointment and congratulated him on his new position.

Along with Mr. Patel, the National School of Drama (NSD) has welcomed the Padmashri actor into their family.

Rawal said that he is looking forward to the assignment. According to the sources, he said, “It will be challenging but fun. I will do my best because this is a field I know very well.”

PK Mohanty, spokesperson of NSD said, “We have not received an official communication letter yet, following which we would be able to clarify about his joining date in office. The date of appointment is considered as the joining date.”

Paresh Rawal has a deep connection and love for the theatre plays. One of his most popular play, ‘Krishna Vs Kanhaiya’, has completed 500 shows and he has performed several times in Delhi. some of his other popular plays are ‘Khelaiya’ and  ‘Dear Father.’

In an interview in 2011, Rawal told, “Actors don’t want to put much effort in theatre, because they know there is no money in this medium. Earlier, people were willing and enthusiastic to work. We used to do plays from day to night. I have never seen that kind of atmosphere in Mumbai again.” when asked if he regrets not giving enough time to theatre, the veteran actor had said, “I have been doing professional theatre for the past 43 years. I have never felt as if I left theatre, because even today I do shows. I will never stop performing on stage. Unlike films, theatre allows you to experiment as an actor, which is fulfilling. Also, when I do plays, I assimilate all my life experience and bring it to my performance. This is the magic and beauty of acting live. Films can provide money, but even that can’t compensate for the joy and satisfaction one gets from doing theatre.”
