Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran is set to take on a pivotal role in Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film, provisionally titled “Daayra,” after Ayushmann Khurrana exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. According to a report by India Today, Ayushmann had to step down because of various professional commitments, including a significant music tour in the U.S. and several forthcoming film projects like “Border 2” and collaborations with Karan Johar, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Maddock Films. Following Ayushmann’s departure, Prithviraj was approached for the role, especially after Sidharth Malhotra also dropped out due to timing clashes.

Prithviraj’s character in “Daayra” is expected to be a cop, with the film’s storyline inspired by a real-life, distressing incident. The narrative reportedly carries a strong message, which resonated with Prithviraj, making his role crucial in driving the film’s story forward. Kareena Kapoor also stars in the movie, with her character showcasing a unique blend of strength, vulnerability, and intuition.

Recently, Prithviraj played the antagonist in “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” alongside Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. He’s also known for his gripping performance in “Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life),” based on Benyamin’s novel, where he portrayed Najeeb, an immigrant laborer entangled in Middle Eastern slavery. On the directorial front, Prithviraj has completed the third schedule of “L2E: Empuraan,” a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster “Lucifer,” featuring Mohanlal. This project has stirred anticipation among fans eager to see the return of Mohanlal’s character, Stephen Nedumpally, as it gears up for a multilingual release.
