‘Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti’ is a bengali film that was released on 6th March,2020, based on the life story of Nandini Bhowmi, a lady priest, who performs weddings without kanyadaan. The film has been receiving good response from the audiences till now. It is the derectorial debut of Aritra Mukherjee who did a pretty well work. The film highlights the issue of gender discrimination. The story revolves around the life of a lady priest played by Ritabhari Chakraborty and the problems that she faces bacause of doing a job that is not expected to be done by a woman in the Hindu society. Ritabhari says- “We need to break menstrual taboos,equality between men and a woman, rituals like kanyadaan which doesn’t have meaning. We are following because it is being followed like this for so many years. Menstruation is not discussed in any film, not in a family film for sure.”

In this film, Ritabhari is not only a woman priest but also a Sanskrit lecturer and a artiste too. ‘Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti” shows the real face of the male dominant society and the rules made by them that females follow unwillingly.

Production house Windows decided to celebrate Women’s Day by releasing a woman-oriented film each year. The film breaks many taboos and stereotypes and talks about the equal rights for men and women in our society.
